The Soundboard Sets the Stage
The design feature of a guitar or ukulele that most powerfully impacts the voice of the instrument is the soundboard. In addition, the top sets the stage for the overall look. Jay works with a wide variety of spruces (each offers something different regarding tone and responsiveness) along with varieties of redwood, mahogany and cedar. (Learn more about Sinker Redwood). He is able to voice each instrument’s soundboard through sanding and bracing to just the right tone, projection, and sustain for specific playing styles. Please Note:
- We keep a large supply of dried and ready to use Spruce soundboards on hand at all times. Jay would be happy to go over all of the different options with you and can send photos as you are considering different possibilities.
- When finish is applied, it dramatically enhances the look. Keep this in mind if you are looking at soundboard sets.
