To have a cutaway or not is completely based on player preference. The cutaway allows easier access to the upper registers and, according to Jay, it also gives an instrument that “cool-factor.” Jay crafts the single cutaway, the double cutaway (a standard feature on the Alchemist, the Bard and Baby Bards) and a compound cutaway.
